I’ve been currently following the Swine flu outbreaks and I was wondering if anyone knew for sure if this outbreak would actually be more harm full than the bird flu that everyone was so concerned about in 2004? I’d like to have real facts along as your opinion so thanks!

In my opinion I would say its worst by it being a superbug at this point. It has strains of human, pig, and avian. So I think its a lot worse than the government would like for us to think. Tamiflu could help but when I use to work at the pharmacy that medicine itself was backordered all the time. Its more of a case where if you catch it early maybe you saved yourself. The virus is also an enveloped virus which makes it pretty evil itself if you ask me. Its odd how I’m taking a Microbiology class and we just learned about viruses which is scary and now we have this going on…not funny at all. Check wikipedia for more updates…unfortunately the status of this bug is changing very rapidly. =(
Yes. For sure yes.
The big fear is a new influenza virus that has mutated into a “human to human” transmission form. Although there were a very few probable cases of the H5N1 strain (Bird Flu), it never really showed an ability to sustain human to human transmission. This new mutation of the virus H1N1 (Swine Flu) was “human to human” from the moment it was recognized.
With that in mind, it is apparently still only a flu virus. Retroviral drugs and modern medical practices have worked well in treating the virus at this point.
Yes, it definitely is. Just to refresh the people’s minds, this flu has raised to ALERT LEVEL four. The highest is six which is a full pandemic and this flu has already spread to over 7 countries in a very short time. 149 people have died, and schools and public building have been shut down in some places, soon airports will also shut down. A vaccine has been in development, but unfortunately it will be ready in 6 months. Think about it, less than 2 weeks 150 people have died the the flu is spreading tremendously, how many people will be infected and die in 6 months?
2,000 people have it already in 24 hours and 145 people dead
so yeah. well this flu is rarely new so we still don’t know whether it’s that deadly
but the bird flu was pretty deadly i have to say.
Not at this point. But it definitely has the potential to get there. So, wash your hands constantly & follow the steps you would usually follow to prevent flu.
Cleanliness is the best protection right now since no vaccination has been discovered yet.
People are turning this into a bigger deal than it is
remember pandemic=pandemonium…. people are flipping out. For one medias making it look like everyone who gets it dies. (not true) and two…. there will be a vaccine out within 4 months
Depends on your perspective really…
If you’re in China, no. If you’re in the Americas, yes.

Not at all!
i don’t think so
some times they make it out to be bigger that it really is
some people say “news was made to scare un more than to inform us”
Yes because it is has a very high transmission rate (lots of people catching and giving it)
No because it is not a high death rate like Bird Flu H5N1.
We are still not out of the woods. This H1N1 could get worse or come back in the fall a real killer OR H5N1 could become very transmittable with a very high death rate.
Either way, the JIT (just n time delivery system) responsible for putting food in the stores and electricity in your home could be disrupted for months at a time. THAT is the BIG worry.
As far as I have seen reported, the swine flu is somewhat less severe than the seasonal flu.
Tens of thousands of folks die from the seasonal flu every year in the USA and it’s not clear that the swine flu can kill you any more that the seasonal one. For both seasonal and swine flu, the deaths come from complications or other, underlying conditions (not the flu itself).
